XJ News has had a few nips and tucks this month, as it was running away with itself!
We now have 2 new register's and have been working hard on those and lots of articles in the pipeline for future issues. Details of the first of our new registers appear below, and next month we will feature the Jaguar Supercar Register for the XJ220 and XJR-15. Esta-jane tells me that she has been entered for another apprentice award, The Learning Skills Council and she has made it through to the regional final, so far! Good luck Esta! No articles from me this month, as I already have a backlog of excellent pieces contributed by other Jaguar enthusiasts! I hope you enjoy them, and will be encouraged to contribute something yourself!
Another First for Jaguar contributed by Brian Foster of Spain, and featured in our February issue, has now
appeared in Classic Car Weekly (12th May 2009) and won the "Star Letter" of the week award! We now have 2 sponsors, namely: Hamiltons of Peterborough and Monza Car Care, and in fairness to them we are no longer able to promote other businesses, unless they too are sponsors. If you have not yet visited our sponsors websites, please take a look and give them your support! They have been carefully chosen, so we can recommend their services. If you are interested in sponsoring Xclusively Jaguar, please contact us for full details and tariff. We are very privilaged to be able to feature many pictures from the Jaguar Heritage Trust archives. |

setting up a Register for the XKR Silverstone, I have named the new register "Registre International des XKR Silverstone" in honour of Thierry for putting forward the idea.
Thierry's XKR Silverstone was first on the list on 17th May 2009.
If you haven't had a look at the new Registre International des XKR Silverstone yet, take a look now,
and pass the word on to anyone you know who owns one!

KUH's Klean-up!
by Esta-jane Mace
|
||||
![]() KUH's new bonnet - oops its Kingfisher! Esta-jane acquired KUH in January, and since then she has worked hard, first to get her into a basic roadworthy condition in order to pass the MOT, and thereafter to look at and deal with other problems, from service issues to cosmetic details. Having recently been fitted with a new (used) bootlid and bonnet (well, she is an XJ40 after all !!!) KUH was finally treated to a BIG clean-up. She may not be concours material, but at least she can be seen in the company of other Jaguars without being ashamed and having to go to the back of the car park!

For more details on any of the above, please visit www.project-jaguar.co.uk Esta’s own site which contains full details of KUH’s Diary
Recently Sir Alan Sugar visited "real" apprentices in Birmingham, which of course included Jaguar Land Rover
apprentices, and among them was Esta-jane Mace.

| Brian's Wedding | ||||
Brians Weddingby Brian Foster | ||||
|
Brians last contribution to the newsletter has since been reproduced in Classic Car Weekly, where it won the “Star letter” award! My bride-to-be and I, lived and met in Malaya in 1960 in the Garrison town of Taiping. My future father- in-law was the local Civil Prison Governor, and I was serving in the Royal Engineers, so a military wedding was decided upon. We therefore wore tropical white uniforms and my bride, of course, a white taffeta wedding dress and veil with a 15 foot train. Her four sisters all acted as Bridesmaids. My mother travelled out from the UK to attend the wedding and stayed with the Commissioner of Prisons and his wife. It was the first time she had ever been out of England, or flown, at the age of 58.We were married in the Garrison Church, just outside the town. The church was of timber construction, built way back in the era of the early rubber planter pioneers, but when the Japanese invaded Malaya, they smashed out the beautiful east coloured glass window and turned the church into a rice store. After the war, the returning parishioners collected all the broken glass from where it had lain in the grass for 4 years, and reconstructed the beautiful window, which remains to this day. After the wedding we retired to the Prison Stadium for the reception. I had previously parked my ten year old Austin Somerset in the Stadium Car Park, ready for our honeymoon departure. We had a number of VIP guests from the Malayan Prison Service, and representatives of 28th Commonwealth Brigade, the Malay Army, the Police and Civil Service, my Commanding Officer, members of my Mess and Rubber Plantation managers. There were also many other civilian guests of different nationality, these being Malay, Chinese, Indians, Tamils, Sikhs, Australians and New Zealanders. Following the reception and breakfast, it was the tradition in those days for the bride and groom to leave, so we bade our goodbye’s and walked to where I expected my car to be, but in its place stood a brand new gleaming white car………… WOW!............ a 2.4 Jaguar!
This was in fact, my Father-in-Law’s car, and to my thrill and delight it was ours for the 2 weeks honeymoon. I could hardly believe my luck, because in those far off days one had to be well off to afford such a luxury. This generous gesture by my father-in-law started for both of us a life long fascination and association with Jaguar cars. We drove carefully north whilst I relished in the cars luxury, comparing the interior and the performance with that of my old Austin, but there was little comparison! In this mood of high excitement I almost missed traffic lights changing to red, and braking sharply I was shocked to feel the steering wheel collapse away from me to a lower position. It was then I realized that the steering column was telescopic for adjustability, and obviously the lock nut had not been fully tightened. So on to Butterworth Port, where we soon boarded the car ferry to take us across to PENANG Island off the West coast of the peninsular. As we were crossing the Straights of Malacca we both walked around the deck, when to our horror, we discovered about 6 pairs of dirty old boots attached to the rear bumper. Also “Just Married” was painted in red lipstick across the boot lid, so we frantically removed the boots but the lip stick remained until we arrived at the hotel! Our Beach Hotel (Golden Sands) was a typical Colonial building for about 40 guests, on a deserted beach with clusters of beautiful leaning Palm Trees. No tourists to be seen in those tranquil days! And so we spent two wonderful weeks, driving around the island in this beautiful modern Jaguar, much to the envy of many an eye, especially when it slumbered outside the hotel, where it was often a centre of attraction.
Over years past in our married life, we have owned four Jaguar cars, not continuously but every few years we would drift back to them, because once smitten…….
