  Dear All,

Unfortunately, while I was in the middle of creating the July newsletter my computer died on me – hardly surprising, considering the use it gets! Having been unable to remedy the situation in time for normal release of the July issue on the website, I decided to create an interim version for all those people who are on my mailing list. My sincerest apologies, and an email will be sent to you when the website is back to normal. (It is all there, but not currently being updated.)

Apprentice of the Year Awards

Esta-jane and W. Midlands TV host's

Esta-jane Mace was nominated for yet another round of apprenticeship awards, this time for “The West Midlands Awards, and again she was runner-up! This means that in total, this year she has been Jaguar Land Rover Apprentice of the Year, as well as being runner up for Coventry and now runner-up for West Midlands, as well. A full report on this, along with the story of Esta’s journey to Jaguar was to have featured in this issue, but will now appear in the August issue of XJ News. Esta’s regular feature on her XJ40 Sovereign will also be held back until August – it relates details of Esta’s participation in the Thoresby Hall JEC event, which as most people are aware, was unfortunately called to a halt by torrential rain!

W479 LDN

Yet again, I have come across my old X200 S-type (W479 LDN) in another Car Sales Lot! This time she is at Hillside Garage in Honiton, which is where I partexchanged her over a year ago. I understand that the dealer who currently “owns” her rents spaces from various people, hence her mysterious movements across East Devon! I hope she will soon find a permanent and derserving home, as she is a very nice example, who seems to have unfortunately got stuck in a rut! Perhaps it is true, after all, that dark metallic greys with grey hide are not a popular option? The first part of LDN’s story, when she came into our ownership, can be found on the “Features” page on the website, and contains much detail on LDN’s history etc, should anybody be interested in purchasing her. She has a recent new MOT and 93,000 genuine recorded miles, backed up by history and documents. I have been in touch with both of her previous owners, and one of them is still a regular visitor to my website!

TEXT THE REG

We’ve tried this ourselves, so we know its good, and it works, so if ever you are in a situation where you do want to make a quick assessment on a car, simply text 83600, and enter the registration number of the car you wish to make enquiries on. At £3 a shot, it is good value for money, especially if it shows up something which could have lead to a costly mistake!

Sale of Jaguar Heritage Collection

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, (JDHT) which looks after Jaguar’s collection of historic vehicles, is to change its name to Jaguar Heritage and have appointed Bonhams to auction some cars from the collection, at the Silverstone Classic this July. Chairman of the Trust and Managing Director of Jaguar Cars, Mike O’Driscoll, said: The link between Jaguar Cars, the Trust and the activities that it carries out around the world are an important part of the future of the company. “When we launched the new XKR and XFR to the media in Europe recently we were supported by cars from the Trust. It is important that we maintain the link to our heritage and the famous vehicles that have gone before like the D type and the C type. They are not only part of the history but also part of the sporting pedigree that is Jaguar.”

The day to day running of the Museum has been taken over by founding trustee Peter Mitchell OBE who has carried out a review of the collection of vehicles as the first stage of a plan to improve and develop the public display facilities that are located at Browns Lane. The name change and sale is part of revamp of the famous museum, which will see closer links with Jaguar Cars. The museum, which is situated at the old Browns Lane factory site will now open to the public five days a week and on the last Sunday of every month.

Since the foundation of the JDHT in 1983, the trust has allowed unrestricted growth of the collection to over 180 vehicles, many of which are duplicated or do not fit within the collecting policy of the trust.

Peter Mitchell said:" We are now carrying out a degree of rationalisation and cars that are not required, mostly duplicate vehicles, will be donated, loaned or sold to other museums as laid out by the Museum Libraries and Archives Council (MLA). Bonhams will sell the remainder at their classic car auction at the Silverstone Classic meeting on July 25. Money raised from the sale will only be used to buy other vehicles that are more relevant to the museum or go towards the cost of conservation or restoration of vehicles held in the museum."

Bonhams are proud and privileged to have been asked to sell cars from the heritage collection at Browns Lane. A list of highlight lots is available below:
