The Daimler Century is one of my favourite modern "Jaguar's" – it has everything going for it
It is user friendly, durable, and carries the added bonus of relative rarity value!
Letitia Mace
The Daimler Century was a limited edition, produced by Jaguar Cars Limited in 1996, to celebrate the centenary of Daimler production in the UK.
Total production was 200 worldwide (100 4 litre and 100 6 litre V12's) making the Daimler Century a very rare beast. Based on the X300 version of the XJ6 and XJ12, it is durable, and most parts are easily available.
Those few which were exported to Japan were badged as a Daimler Centenary in order not to clash with the Toyota Century.
The Daimler Century was produced in a variety of colours, in long wheel base form only, but with the option of 4 or 5 seats - most were specified as 4 seaters.
Identification is by reference to the "Century" badging on the glovebox, treadplates, bootlid and front wing. There is no "Century specific" Vehicle Identification Number coding.
ALL Century's will begin "SAJDK". The 6th character will relate to the intended market; the 7th will be M (5 seats, that is, rear bench seat) or N (4 individual seats with rear centre console dividing the rear seats); the 8th character relates to engine size - D (4 litre) and S (6 litre); the 9th character relates to transmission and drive-side. The 10th is for "X300" and will therefore be constant, while the 11th is related to emmissions equipment, and so far I have come across only J for the 4 litre and S for the 6 litre. The final 6 digits are unique to each Daimler Century, but fall within the general X300 numbering range, as these cars would have been built on the same production line, mixed in amongst their lesser siblings.
